Anne-Émilie Gold, originally Anne-Émilie Gravel, spent her formative years between the historic streets of Paris, France and the vibrant city of Montreal, Canada. Her passion for the built environment and the natural world led her across the globe, eventually guiding her to the serene landscapes of the West Coast of the United States.
Anne-Émilie's academic journey in landscape architecture began at the University of Montreal, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in 2000, followed by a Master's degree from the prestigious University of California at Berkeley in 2002. Her professional path was carved out at esteemed Seattle-based firms, including Jones & Jones Architects and Landscape Architects, Ltd., and GGLO. It was here that Anne-Émilie refined her craft, evolving from a skilled landscape designer to a registered Landscape Architect in the State of Washington by 2008. Her portfolio is as diverse as it is impressive, encompassing projects ranging from public and private gardens to urban design plans, zoos, visual analyses, highways, and urban parks. In recent years, Anne-Émilie has dedicated her expertise to the creation of residential water-wise gardens, merging her commitment to sustainability with her artistic vision. Her work in designing preschool playgrounds reflects her belief in the importance of play and learning in natural settings. A third-generation contractor, Steve Gold’s roots run deep in Southern California, where his family has lived for over a century. His great-grandfather, Luigi, planted 40 acres of olive groves and owned the first barbershop on Sunset Boulevard. Steve’s father operated Gold Star Construction for 40 years, instilling a legacy of craftsmanship and dedication. Known for his efficiency, attention to detail, and commitment to timely, on-budget delivery, Steve carries forward his family’s passion for building with integrity.
Steve’s formal education in horticulture and landscape design includes studies at UC Berkeley, Cabrillo College, and South Seattle Community College. Under the mentorship of renowned landscape designer Hendrikus Schraven, Steve honed his eye for beauty and love of natural materials, sparking a passion for creating harmonious outdoor spaces. With over 25 years of experience, including founding and running Urban Escapes Inc., Steve’s projects reflect his expertise in landscape construction, project management, and construction administration. From modest residential gardens to large-scale public works, Steve’s work is recognized for its functionality and aesthetic appeal, with features in national publications like Garden Design and Better Homes and Gardens. His approach centers on understanding each space’s unique qualities, crafting landscapes that blend beauty, practicality, and lasting value. |
